Tokyo Deaflympics: 100 Days to Go
On August 7, Governor Koike attended the TOKYO FORWARD 2025 “Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics 100 Days To Go!” event, helping to build momentum for the first-ever Deaflympics to be hosted in Japan. Mr. Kawahara Masahiro, Vice President of Japanese Federation of the Deaf, and Japan Sports Agency’s Commissioner Mr. Murofushi Koji also participated in the event held in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo.
“Now that the Japanese national team has been announced, I can feel the excitement building day by day. The Deaflympics contribute greatly to creating an inclusive society where people with and without disabilities can enjoy sports together and respect each other's differences,” Governor Koike said. She then mentioned initiatives such as inviting children to several programs during the Games, proceeding universal communication aided by digital technology and developing a new way of cheering through visual expression.
During the Games, she stated , digital technology will be actively used for hospitality purposes in train stations and athletes’ accommodations.
“I am confident that these initiatives, when combined, will further enhance the value of the Games and transform society into a place where everyone can live a vibrant life. Let's work together to maintain this momentum for the next 100 years.”
