Organizational Changes Effective April 1, 2025
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will make the following organizational changes, effective April 1, 2025.
1. Establish the Office for Comprehensive Promotion of Citizen Safety
- The TMG will establish the Office for Comprehensive Promotion of Citizen Safety to swiftly improve community safety and discourage criminal activities while building a structure to further advance public security and traffic safety in collaboration with various entities.
2. Establish the Office for Sports Promotion
- With Tokyo hosting the World Athletics Championships and the Deaflympics, sports are in the spotlight this year. Taking this occasion, we will establish the Office for Sports Promotion as a permanent structure to further promote sports, while inheriting the legacy of international sports events.
- Consequently, the Tokyo 2020 post-Games operations will be transferred from the Office of the Governor for Policy Planning to the Office for Sports Promotion.
3. Rename the Bureau of Citizens, Culture and Sports to the Bureau of Citizens and Cultural Affairs
- With the establishment of the Office for Sports Promotion, the Bureau of Citizens, Culture and Sports will be renamed the Bureau of Citizens and Cultural Affairs.
4. Establish the Startup Strategy Promotion Headquarters
- With our existing platforms, such as SusHi Tech Tokyo and Tokyo Innovation Base as the foundation, we will establish the Startup Strategy Promotion Headquarters to support startups that drive technological innovations in society. Dedicated to startups, this specialized structure will robustly implement measures.
- In addition, the "Tokyo Bay eSG Project" will be transferred from the Office of the Governor for Policy Planning to the Startup Strategy Promotion Headquarters to further accelerate innovation by collaborating with startups.
- Meanwhile, the Global Financial City Strategy operations will be transferred to the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, and the National Strategic Special Zone operations will be transferred to the Office of the Governor for Policy Planning.
5. Transfer Operations on Global Financial City to the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs
- To speed up our comprehensive efforts in integrating policies on global finance and energy to realize an innovation and financial hub in Asia, the Global Financial City Strategy operations will be transferred to the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, which oversees industrial policies.
