Tokyo-London Green Finance Seminar 2019
For a second straight year, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and British Embassy Tokyo co-hosted the Tokyo-London Green Finance Seminar 2019 based on the Memorandum of Understanding Between The City of London Corporation and Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The seminar featured opening and closing remarks by the British Ambassador to Japan and the Governor of Tokyo, as well as a keynote speech by Sir Roger Gifford, chairman of the Green Finance Initiative, City of London Corporation and panel discussions with green finance experts from Japan and abroad.
In her closing remarks, the governor noted the importance of the combination of "environment" and "finance," and introduced the government's various initiatives, such as Tokyo Green Bonds and the Tokyo Financial Award recognizing financial companies promoting ESG investment. She also expressed her goal for Tokyo to become a "leading city for sustainable finance."
