Tokyo Metropolitan Government Launches Program to Foster Innovation and Global Competitiveness Through Collaboration with Tokyo-Based SMEs

Applications Now Open for Overseas Deep-Tech Companies Seeking Expansion into Tokyo

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is pleased to announce the launch of its new “Deep Tech Tokyo Launchpad” program, an initiative designed to enhance Tokyo’s global competitiveness by fostering industrial growth through financial support and consultancy for overseas deep-tech companies looking to establish a presence in Japan’s capital city.This aims to both drive innovation by promoting collaboration between participating companies and Tokyo-based small & medium-sized enterprises, and to accelerate their joint business growth. Applications to participate in the program are now being accepted.

Program Overview

The program aims to encourage overseas deep-tech companies to establish a presence in Tokyo by subsidizing their market entry costs, and through various support programs.

 Support Process

Support Details

1. Subsidy Amount: Up to 100 million yen over three years. The subsidy rate will be reduced in stages from 80% to 40% over this period.
2. Eligible Expenses: Will include company establishment costs, consulting fees for specialized institutions, business matching expenses.
3. Support Programs: Will include support for consulting services, PR, business matching services, pitch events, and assistance with subsidy application procedures.
4. Eligible Sectors: Deep-tech fields (e.g., quantum technology, robotics, AI/data science, GX/energy, biotechnology, advanced materials, digital/cybersecurity, food tech, aerospace, fusion energy, semiconductors and electronics, healthcare/life sciences).
5. Cohort Size: 5 companies.

Schedule

  • Application Period: Thursday May 14 – Wednesday September 30, 2026
  • Screening Period (document review & presentation): October–November, 2026 (tentative)
  • Final Selection of Companies to be Supported: Early December, 2026 (tentative)
