3 Main duties
(1)Translating documents and materials from Japanese to English
(2)Checking/editing documents and materials in English.
(3)Collecting English-language information from overseas sources.
(4)Supporting communications with various overseas organizations using
English.
(5)Performing any other duties requested by the senior director of the
International Affairs Division.
4 Employment conditions
(*indicates information applicable for a one-year contract)
| Salary/Stipends | The salary is 342,300 yen per month (before deductions for tax, social insurance, etc.). A commutation allowance and a remote work allowance, when applicable, are furnished in addition to the above salary (calculated under the terms set forth by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government).*Bonus twice a year (payment subject to certain conditions). |
| Term of employment | From January 1, 2026, through March 31, 2026 Contract renewal up to four times is possible, subject to certain conditions. |
| Number of working days | 16 days per month for the remainder of FY2025 (a total of 48 days) |
| Working hours | 7 hours 45 minutes per day (basically from 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.) (Break time: 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.) Staggered working hours and remote work are possible, subject to certain conditions. |

5 Application qualifications
Applicants must fulfill all of the following requirements:
(1)Applicants must be native level speakers of English.
(2)Applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1
(equivalent to the former Level 1)
or have equivalent proficiency in the Japanese language, and are able to
communicate in the Japanese language.
(3)Applicants must have a university degree or equivalent education.
(4)Non-Japanese applicants must have proper visa status to work in Japan.
(5)Applicants must have experience in Japanese to English translation.
Experience in the following is desirable:
・English proofreading and speech writing

Second-round selection based on a written examination and interview held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government office

*1 Applicants who have served as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government Foreign Language Translation Specialist for at least one year from April 1, 2020, are exempt.
8 Application deadline
Applications must arrive by 5:00 p.m., October 15 (Wed.)
9 Application procedure
・The application form and other required documents can be submitted by post,
in person, or by email. They must be submitted by the deadline indicated.
・When submitting by post, please send by registered post to ensure arrival.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will not be responsible for non-arrival of
documents sent by ordinary post.
・When sending by email, indicate 会計年度任用職員申込 in the subject line, and
attach the documents in PDF form. Confirmation mail will be sent after the
application has been received. If you do not receive this confirmation, please
notify us by phone by the application deadline.
・The submitted documents will not be returned.
