Signing of a Joint Communiqué between Tokyo and London

Governor of Tokyo Koike Yuriko met with Mayor of London Lord Sadiq Khan in London on 6 November. Following their meeting, the two leaders signed a Joint Communiqué aimed at further strengthening cooperation between the two cities.

Since establishing a friendship city relationship in 2015, Tokyo and London have engaged in exchanges across a wide range of areas, including urban development, the environment and culture. Both leaders are also founding members of the Mayors AI Forum, established in April this year.

During the meeting, the two leaders affirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration between Tokyo and London, two of the world’s leading global cities, to address the common challenges facing both cities. In particular, they shared the importance of harnessing advances in AI to drive new urban growth and improve the lives of their citizens, while appropriately addressing the impact on employment and society. They also agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the two cities by sharing their expertise and pioneering initiatives to foster AI-driven innovation and enhance public services.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with London, with the aim of improving the lives of Tokyo residents and contributing to the sustainable development of Tokyo.
