Governor Attends an Advisory Board Meeting (2nd) on Energy Issues

On September 9, Governor Koike attended the 2nd meeting of an advisory board on energy issues for FY2026.

The governor said: “Climate change has been wreaking havoc all over the world. There were reports recently that a glacier in Nepal melted, causing a major disaster there, and around the same time, a flash flood occurred in the Grand Canyon. Now we must take action to change the future while confronting reality with a sense of urgency. At the end of July, I visited the UN headquarters in New York. I spoke with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is deeply committed to tackling climate change, and discussed how to balance decarbonization with energy security.

“Given that hydrogen is our trump card, I would like to hear your views on this matter at this meeting. We need to address both supply and demand: the public and private sectors must work together to create demand and build up supply. I hope we can discuss how we will move forward toward realizing a hydrogen society. And I hope we can roll out effective measures while hearing your insights and perspectives,” she said.
