Tokyo’s Memorial Service for A-Bomb Victims for FY2026 Held

On July 26, Governor Koike attended Tokyo’s Memorial Service for A-Bomb Victims for FY2026, held at Techno Plaza Katsushika in Katsushika Ward.

The governor stated, “On behalf of the citizens of Tokyo, I humbly offer my sincere condolences to the souls of the atomic bomb victims. In August 1945, many precious lives were lost by the two atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As I give thought to the regret of the many who fell victim and the deep sorrow of their bereaved families, I cannot help but feel deep grief. Furthermore, many people still suffer deeply, both physically and mentally.

“We must pass on the fact that the peace we enjoy today was built on those precious lives lost to the atomic bombings and the hardships endured by their bereaved families. There are approximately 3,100 hibakusha living in Tokyo. I would like to express my deepest respect to the members of Toyukai who are in attendance today and have been engaged for many years in heartfelt activities to support hibakusha and their families and have also been involved in activities to share their testimonies of the atomic bombings,” she said.

“Even now, in various parts of the world, many lives and peaceful livelihoods of people are being lost due to the ravages of war. Together with you, I pledge to ensure that we pass on a peaceful world filled with hope to the children who will shoulder the future,” the governor pledged.
