Governor and Corporate Heads Discuss Women’s Empowerment Ordinance
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko attended a meeting on June 30 to exchange views with five corporate executives on the launch of a new metropolitan ordinance on promoting women’s empowerment in the workplace.
“Nearly half of Tokyo’s 14 million residents are women. Harnessing the power of these women will lead to Tokyo’s sustainable growth,” Governor Koike told the meeting. “I can’t help but wonder: How can we possibly move forward without tapping into this immense potential? I want to create an environment where each and every one can achieve self-fulfillment. The ordinance to promote women's empowerment will finally come into effect.” she said. “We will continue to develop society. Women cannot do this alone. Men must work together with women to drive this society forward.”
“And from now on, I want to start building a society where every single person living in it can find fulfillment.”
