Japan’s First Domestically Produced EV Police Bike Unveiled
Governor Koike attended the ceremony for unveiling Japan’s first domestically produced electric police motorcycle on December 19, 2025, along with bike-loving actor and musician Tsuruno Takeshi.
“It makes no noise and is sleek in design,” the governor told the ceremony. “As a domestically produced EV patrol bike, it is being unveiled here today.”
She noted that electric vehicles play a role in reducing carbon emissions. “Recent weather conditions are truly unpredictable—such as the summer's heat, typhoons and torrential rains this year,” she said, “The effects of climate change are evident in so many ways that it's hard to know what's normal anymore.”
“Amidst this situation, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is driven by a sense of urgency that decarbonization cannot wait,” the governor went on, “as it is taking on challenges in various fields to achieve zero emissions by 2050.”
“And, as for motorcycles, we aim for all new sales to be non‑gasoline powered by 2035,” she said, “and we are also providing purchase support for EV motorcycles."
