Governor Koike Inspects Hachijojima Island Hit by Typhoons

On October 15, Governor Koike inspected Hachijojima, an island of Tokyo that was hit recently by typhoons No. 22 and No. 23 of this year.

Following the inspection, the governor said, “We will first create conditions where those evacuated can feel secure, as in line with their needs. A significant number of staff from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government have already been at work on the scene. Working in cooperation with the Self-Defense Forces, we will work on improving, restoring, and recovering those areas hit by the latest typhoons. In coordination with the town mayor, we will also push forward the tasks needed fast to protect the island residents of Tokyo while paying attention to what would become necessary in the medium and long run.

She also said, “I visited the sites where people have evacuated. We will expedite our efforts to secure lifelines, such as the supply of water and electricity. As we will work hard to ensure everyone’s safety and security in their daily lives, I hope we can move forward together.”
