Launch of the Human Resources Development Project for Sewerage Pipe Maintenance & Renovation with the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Ulaanbaatar City (USUG)
The Bureau of Sewerage of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Sewerage Service Corporation (TGS), a key policy partner, is pursuing integrated initiatives to support the needs of overseas cities. As part of these efforts, TMG proposed a project to develop human resources specializing in the maintenance, management, and renovation of sewerage pipes at the USUG in Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia. The proposal was submitted to the "JICA Partnership Program" of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the proposal was officially approved in March 2023.
We are pleased to announce that the implementation of this human resource development project commenced in June 2024.
- What is the “JICA Partnership Program?”
International cooperation activities implemented by JICA on a consignment basis at the suggestion of local governments, NGOs, etc., to contribute to the economic and social development or reconstruction of developing countries.
Outline of the Project
Purpose of the Project
To provide technical support to USUG staff to enable them to properly maintain and renovate sewerage pipes, including inspections, investigations, and planned replacements.
Period of the Project
From June 2024 to March 2027
Major Contents of the Project
(1) Understanding of operational methods to properly maintain sound sewerage pipes
(2) Improvement of technical capabilities concerning inspections and investigations of sewerage pipes
(3) Acquisition of skills and improvement of capabilities in selecting construction methods and managing construction work for sewerage pipe renovation
Project Implementation Systems
The Bureau of Sewerage proposed the project, and TGS, which was designated as the project implementation entity, concluded a consignment contract with JICA.
