Governor Attends ‘Tokyo Dementia Symposium 2026’

On September 16, Governor Koike attended the “Tokyo Dementia Symposium 2026.”

The governor stated, “As we expect the arrival of a full-fledged super-aged society, it is important to understand that dementia is a condition that anyone can develop and to create an environment where people with dementia and their families can live with a sense of reassurance in their communities.

She went on to say, “To help many people deepen their understanding of dementia, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government runs various awareness campaigns, centering on September, which is designated as ‘Dementia Awareness Month.’ As part of our efforts, we hold this ‘Dementia Symposium’ every year. We have also appointed the ‘Tokyo Dementia Ambassadors of Hope,’ who share information based on their personal experiences of suffering from dementia. Today, four ambassadors will participate in a roundtable discussion to share how they lead their daily lives and the messages they wish to convey to you.”

In concluding her address, she said, “I hope that every one of you will think about how we will create an inclusive society where we respect and support one another, regardless of whether we have dementia or not. I hope today’s symposium will serve as a good opportunity for you to deepen your understanding of dementia.”
