JBA President Visits Ahead of Women’s Basketball World Cup

On August 17, 2026, Japan Basketball Association President Shimada Shinji and Secretary General Watanabe Shinji, along with player Miyazawa Yuki, paid a courtesy call on Governor Koike.

The governor said, “I am very pleased that Tokyo has been selected to host the 2030 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, and I am looking forward to the event.” She also extended her heartfelt support to the team and wished them every success at the 2026 World Cup in Berlin.

She added, “The spectacular achievements of the women’s basketball team are a powerful example of women’s empowerment. I believe they will inspire and encourage many women, as well as children of all genders. I sincerely hope that the 2030 tournament will be a wonderful success.”
