Campaign to Collect Lithium-Ion Batteries in TMG Bldg. Starts

On June 26, Governor Koike attended the opening event for a “Campaign to Collect Lithium-Ion Batteries in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building,” held in the same building.

Governor Koike stated, “We will launch a campaign to collect small rechargeable household appliances by installing, in the TMG building, recycling bins that use AI to sort trash automatically. Since this initiative will contribute to recycling rare metals, we have named it the ‘Tokyo Mine.’ Tempura (Deep-frying) oil is also an important recyclable resource. We plan to actively collect this as well and promote it as the ‘Tokyo Oil Field.’

“I believe the current situation in the Middle East has once again highlighted the importance of energy issues. As each of us reflects on what we can do personally, we would be delighted if you could contribute by donating unused household appliances, such as mobile phones, from your home,” she said.
