Free Wagasa Rentals at Tokyo Gardens This Summer

To help visitors enjoy the elegant atmosphere of traditional Japanese gardens during the summer season, when the sun is particularly strong, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Construction and the Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association are offering complimentary wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrellas) at nine metropolitan gardens through September 27, 2026.

The nine metropolitan gardens are: Hama-rikyu Gardens, Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Gardens, Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, Rikugien Gardens, Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardens, Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens, Kiyosumi Gardens, Kyu-Furukawa Gardens and Tonogaya Gardens

Visitors are welcome to use the umbrellas freely, choosing from a variety of colors and designs available at rental stations near each garden entrance.

Please note:

  • Wagasa umbrellas are available for rental only in fair weather and may not always be available during the program period.
  • The rental period may vary by garden, with some gardens ending later than the dates indicated above.
  • Rentals are free of charge; however, regular garden admission fees apply.
