Governor Koike Attends ‘New Year’s Reception’ Organized by TCCI
On January 8, Governor Koike attended the “New Year’s Reception” organized by the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held at Tokyo Kaikan in Chiyoda Ward.
Governor Koike stated, “The international situation has been quite turbulent since the start of the new year. And natural disasters wreaked havoc again last year.
Innovations, including AI, have made sharp changes.
She then pointed out, “In national politics, we have had the first female Prime Minister in Japan, and the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appointed its first Vice Chairwoman. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government enacted an ordinance promoting women’s participation in society, and we will now focus on enhancing its effectiveness. During the January-October period last year, the birthrate in Tokyo increased by 0.9% from a year earlier. Also lying behind this is an increase in marriages.”
The governor went on to say, “This year, which marks the 8th year of the Reiwa era, a truly auspicious number symbolizing prosperity, we will liven up various initiatives. In January, the metropolitan government will launch a campaign to create a major movement. We have implemented various policies to date, such as the principles of ‘Children First’ and ‘Baby First.’”
In concluding her address, she emphasized, “During our lifetime, there are various stages of life, but if there is a rift in any one of these stages, people cannot fully commit themselves. Therefore, we will continue to implement seamless measures. Furthermore, we will deepen our dialogue with all of you who know well how things would get done on the frontline in your respective field while sparing no effort to help revitalize small and medium-sized enterprises and local communities and achieve economic development of Tokyo and Japan as a whole.”
