Governor Koike and WA President Coe Pledge to Make the 2025 Championships an Inspiring Event for Young People

Governor Koike met with World Athletics President Mr. Sebastian Coe on May 7, reaffirming their commitment to making the upcoming Championships a great event to inspire dreams in younger generations.


Governor Koike, WA President Sebastian Coe, and JAAF and WCH Tokyo 25 President Ogata Mitsugi hold batons at the TMG on May 7, Kids’ Athletics Day. 

The governor said: "With just four months to go until the World Athletics Championships, excitement in Tokyo is growing by the day. We will further accelerate preparations in close cooperation with the Local Organising Committee of World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.”

“We aim to make this Championship a memorable one that inspires dreams in children,” she emphasized, calling for a full-scale cooperation and close partnership with the World Athletics.

WA President Coe expressed his appreciation, stating, “Through regular updates and on-site visits, I am pleased to see that preparations are progressing smoothly.” Mr. Coe said that WA will continue preparing in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Local Organising Committee.

Mr. Coe also reaffirmed his commitment to the event, saying, “I am more determined than ever to ensure that the WCH Tokyo 25 becomes one of the world’s most significant sporting events of the year, engaging younger generations in the process.”
