Governor Koike’s comments on the statement by the IOC Executive Board regarding measures to address COVID-19
At the IOC Executive Board meeting held on March 3 and 4, discussions were conducted on measures to address the novel coronavirus situation in relation to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
In response to the statement made by the IOC Executive Board, the Governor has made the following comments.
Governor Koike’s comments
The IOC Executive Board expressed its full commitment to the success of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The IOC also highly appreciated and supported the measures we are taking to host a safe and secure Games. It was also stated that the IOC and all stakeholders will continue to work closely together to address the challenges of the coronavirus.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has already set up the Tokyo Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters. Along with engaging in measures on a metropolitan government-wide level, we are advancing ongoing discussions with the IOC, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the national government, WHO, and other relevant organizations.
We will continue to work in full collaboration with the IOC, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, and the national government to ensure the delivery of a safe and secure Games.
