TMG Holds Event to Introduce Its Technical Jobs to Science Students
The Secretariat to the Personnel Commission will hold the “TMG × Technical Job Career Discovery Forum” on August 28, a face-to-face event to introduce technical jobs at TMG to university students majoring in science and engineering.
The event will be organized primarily for freshmen and sophomores majoring in architecture and the core engineering disciplines—civil, mechanical, and electrical. The first half of the event is to be held in a lecture hall provided by TMG. Section chief-level technical staff will lecture on daily routine work and dynamic city planning gained through on-site work.
The lecture will be followed by discussion meetings held in separate booths, where junior staff will share with students what their real daily work is like, and where the students will be briefed on the employment tests and the personnel system at TMG. At these small-group meetings, with students divided into several groups by field of study, they learn, in a more relaxed atmosphere, about the details of duties and responsibilities as well as the attractiveness of civil service in technical fields.
The second half consists of on-site tours for interested participants. By visiting the actual worksite via a bus arranged by TMG, participants will gain a real feeling of the scale of the jobs.
There are two options for the visit, which the participants can choose at the time of application:
1. Touring the 2nd High Tide Management Center, which protects Tokyo citizens from tsunamis and storm surges, and the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.

2. Cruising around Tokyo Port via an observation vessel and touring Oi Container Terminal, the Shinkaimen Landfill Site, and others.

To participate in the event, an advance application is required. Whether they attend this event or not won’t affect the outcome of the hiring exam or their employment, and students can learn about the job without worrying about how it might affect their job search.
