Governor Koike Stresses the Need for Promoting Decarbonization and Green Hydrogen Use
At the 8th meeting of the “Tokyo Green Hydrogen Roundtable,” held on July 14, Governor Koike emphasized the need for promoting decarbonization and the utilization of green hydrogen, which, she said, holds a key to ensuring a stable energy supply.
The governor said, “The situation surrounding energy in our country is truly harsh. Yet, this can precisely be the time where we can turn a crisis into a chance. Promoting decarbonization and the utilization of green hydrogen, which holds a key to ensuring a stable supply of energy, has become ever more important.”
Tokyo has been designated by the national government as a priority region for promoting the use of hydrogen, and its use in commercial vehicles and the like in the capital is advancing. It has also concluded green hydrogen trial trading, for the first time in the world. Furthermore, it has launched large-scale green hydrogen production, the first of its kind in Tokyo.
Noting that the theme of the latest meeting was ‘Accelerating the Social Implementation of Green Hydrogen toward 2050,’ the governor said, “We would like to hear about the progress being made by the latest projects, thus leading also to accelerating our efforts.”
