Governor Koike Attends the 1st FY2025 Meeting of the Advisory Council on Promotion of Tourism in Tokyo
Governor Koike attended the first FY2025 meeting of the Advisory Council on Promotion of Tourism in Tokyo on July 7.
In her opening remarks, she noted that the number of foreign visitors to Tokyo rose to about 2,479,000 and their spending there reached some 4 trillion yen (27 billion US dollars) last year, “both hitting record highs.”
“Our past efforts in various fields have borne fruit, prompting many people from abroad to visit Tokyo and enjoy tourism, and helping the city with its economic revitalization,” the governor said.
She added, “We will continue to make the most of the diverse charms of Tokyo in an effort to help it remain a city chosen by the world.”
The theme of the council meeting was “Direction of Policy Reinforcement Towards a Sustainable Growth of Tourism,” Governor Koike pointed out. ”I’d appreciate if you will discuss tourism in Tokyo from a long- and medium-term viewpoint and perspective, with the aim of making Tokyo the world’s best tourist city.”
