Governor Meets with the World Rugby Chairman
On November 2, Governor Koike met with Bill Beaumont, chairman of World Rugby, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
World Rugby is the world governing body for the sport of rugby, which organizes the Rugby World Cup (RWC). The chairman was in Japan for the announcement of the match schedule for RWC 2019 in Japan.
The governor, mentioning that the opening ceremony and opening match of RWC 2019 Japan will be held at Tokyo Stadium, said: “We will create an environment that ensures that athletes from the participating countries can fully exhibit their playing skills and spectators coming to watch the matches from around the world can enjoy their time here. We wish to foster momentum for the World Cup by working in cooperation with the organizing committee, 12 host cities, and municipal governments in Tokyo, so that many people can experience the power, skills, and speed of the world’s top teams.” “I hope RWC 2019 will be a wonderful event and that the energy generated there will be carried into the year 2020.”
