President of the International Weightlifting Federation Visits the Governor
On Tuesday, November 8, Governor Koike met with Dr. Tamas Ajan, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
President Ajan's visit to Japan coincided with the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tokyo.
At the meeting, the governor said, "We will welcome the weightlifters of the world to a superb venue in 2020. We are steadily making those preparations now. Tokyo wants to firmly respond to several of your requests. I am very happy to be able to welcome you as the governor of Tokyo."
Stating that it was an honor having someone involved with weightlifting chosen as governor of Tokyo for all associated with the sport, President Ayan said, "I sincerely hope that you will carry out your work related to the 2020 Games in a transparent manner. I look forward to you making a major impact on the 2020 Games in the same way that you greatly changed the Japan Weightlifting Association."
Finally, a sports hijab for the growing number of female atheltes from Islamic countries made in Japan at the suggestion of the governor was introduced.
