Ambassador of Egypt Visits the Governor
On Monday, September 26, Ambassador Ismail Khairat of Egypt met with Governor Koike.
Ambassador Khairat congratulated the governor on becoming the first women to serve as the governor of Tokyo. Governor Koike responded, “I was very pleased to receive congratulatory messages from Egypt.”
The governor also said, “Japan and Egypt have long-standing ties, both historically and politically, and I am very happy about that. When powerful earthquakes struck Kumamoto Prefecture, sympathy messages came in from Egypt, and an event was held at Cairo University to encourage the survivors. I am grateful for those efforts.” Then she added, “Tokyo and Cairo have a friendship-city relationship. I am so glad that there is a lot of exchange between the two cities, in the area of sports as well.”
