Governor Meets with Mayor of Beijing
On Wednesday, September 12, Governor Koike met with Mayor Chen Jining of Beijing, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Referring to Mayor Chen’s background as an environmental specialist, Governor Koike said, “I think it would be wonderful for our citizens if the two mega-cities of Tokyo and Beijing hold exchanges concerning the environment and work together for its improvement,” and “I look forward to more exchange, in many fields not only in the environmental field.”
Mayor Chen said that exchange between the capital cities of Japan and China would also help promote Japan-China friendship. He also added that “Next year will be the 40th anniversary of Tokyo and Beijing’s friendship city relations,” “Forty years of exchange have led to accomplishments in a number of fields, and I look forward to even further developments.” He also spoke about how he felt the Tokyo 2020 spirit from the moment he landed in Tokyo and said, “I wish for the success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.”
