“Cheer Signs Supporters” Cheering Schedule at Competition Venues Announced!
Just 10 days to go until the Opening Ceremony. The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will finally begin on November 15.
To further energize the new “visual cheering style” called Cheer Signs, we have formed the Cheer Signs Supporters, who will appear at competition venues according to the schedule below. The supporter team, including development members, will cheer on Deaf athletes together with spectators at each venue on the scheduled dates below.
On select dates, Doram TOMISAKAE, Sakura INOUE, and Support ambassador of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics Nobuharu ASAHARA will also join to deliver heartfelt cheers.
Let’s take this opportunity to cheer together using Cheer Signs!
We look forward to your participation.
What are Cheer Signs?
Cheer Signs (Japanese name: Sign-Yell) are a newly created cheering style designed to visually convey support to Deaf athletes. In many sports, cheering relies heavily on voice and sound, making it difficult for fans to directly deliver their support in “Deaf sports ”, where athletes may not hear auditory cheers. Cheer Signs were created so that everyone—whether Deaf or hearing—can express their support, drawing inspiration from the visual communication style of the Deaf community and based on Japanese Sign Language.
Developed together with Deaf athletes and members who are Deaf or hard of hearing, this new cheering style will be shared from Tokyo to the world, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics.
