PT Meeting on the Use of Domestically Produced Timber
On June 30, Governor Koike attended an online meeting of the National Governors’ Association’s Project Team on the Use of Domestically Produced Timber.
Governor Koike stated, “We must ensure occupational safety and enhance productivity in the forestry industry moving forward. To do so, we must promote smart forestry and digital transformation of forestry.”
She also pointed out, “In Tokyo, we have been supporting the introduction of forestry machinery that utilizes advanced technologies, including remote-controlled logging machines. Furthermore, Tokyo is a major consumer of timber. Capitalizing on this characteristic, we are advancing initiatives to encourage more people to use timber from across the country.
“Near the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, there is a facility called ‘MOCTION’ that serves as a hub for promoting the attractiveness of timber. In cooperation with other prefectural governments, we are exhibiting and introducing domestically produced timber and wooden furniture there, so I hope you will make use of it. I do hope we can join forces as a united Japan to expand the use of domestically produced timber,” she said.
