Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2022 on Clear Autumn Day
The Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony was held for the first time in three years at Hamarikyu Gardens (Chuo City) on October 22 and 23, and Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (Koganei City) on October 29 and 30. All participants had to apply in advance as a measure prevent COVID-19 infections. Each tea ceremony had a set maximum number of participants.
At the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, there was a tea ceremony in the garden of a historical building, an outdoor tea ceremony where participants could enjoy the ceremony outdoors, and an outdoor tea ceremony in English with explanations about tea culture and etiquette in English. A woman who participated in the tea ceremony at the House of Korekiyo Takahashi with her five-year-old child said, “My child also likes tea, so we came together.” Her child also said that the tea was delicious.
Participants enjoyed a tea ceremony in English at the Farmhouse of the Tsunashima Family,
a building from the middle of the Edo period.
